Team BikeExchange Adds Weening and Hoffman as Sport Directors

Team BikeExchange, which will add the Jayco brand to its name next season, is adding two new sport directors to its men’s WorldTour team in 2022 with the addition of Pieter Weening and Tristan Hoffman.

Weening may be a new signing in the role, but has plenty of experience with GreenEDGE Cycling – the stable identity of the Australian team through its various reigning sponsorships – having raced with them for four seasons until the end of 2015 and taking one of his two Giro d’Italia stage victories in the race with the team.

“I’m really looking forward to working with GreenEDGE Cycling again, for me it’s a huge advantage that I know a lot of riders and a lot of staff,” said Weening, who retired from professional racing in 2020 , in a statement team. “It is a real honor for me to work for a great, great team like this.”

Hoffman raced professionally for 14 years, finishing second at Paris-Roubaix, before working as a sporting director, a role in which he has over a decade of experience on teams ranging from Highroad to Bahrain Merida.

“I really like the culture of GreenEDGE Cycling and the way they race, they always race aggressively and of course they want to win more and win big races and I hope I can help with that,” Hoffman said. “I’ve been a sports director for 15 years, this year in 2021 I had a kind of sabbatical, but I really discovered how much I love cycling. I have been in the cycling world for 30 years and it has given me a lot, it is my passion and I love to get involved so I am very happy to join GreenEDGE Cycling.

The two sporting directors from the Netherlands join two new riders from the country, Jan Maas moving to WorldTour level with the team in 2022 and Dylan Groenewegen making a late transfer from Jumbo-Visma. The sprinter said on the transfer that it was too good an opportunity to pass up, but that he could miss the Dutch around him and the Dutch mentality.

“As we bring Dylan Groenewegen to the squad it is also appropriate for us to include two new Dutch sporting directors, we know both men very well and I think the characteristics of Pieter and Tristan really match the culture of the team, “Brent Copeland, general said the director of Team BikeExchange. “So we are delighted to have them both on board and to work with us to achieve our big goals for the 2022 season.”
