Snowshoe Mountain will host a two-headed descent


The UCI, the world’s governing body for cycling, has announced that Snowshoe Mountain will now host two Mountain Bike World Cup downhill races in September. The addition of a second downhill race was made necessary by the cancellation of the World Cup in Fort William, Scotland. The event will take place in Snowshoe’s Western Territory on Wednesday, September 15, just days before the World Cup Finals are held at the same location, September 17-19.

The announcement is big news for World Cup fans on this side of the Atlantic. Snowshoeing, already the only North American venue on this year’s UCI MTB World Cup program, will now be the site of a rare “double descent”, culminating in the World Cup Finals and the crowning glory. the winners of the UCI general classification for the 2021 season.

The World Cup Finals will be broadcast live on FOX Sports and broadcast worldwide via Red Bull TV, highlighting the growing mountain biking scene in the region. The events will be open to spectators. Tickets will be available for purchase at from July 1.

In 2019, Snowshoe hosted the first UCI Mountain Bike World Cup on American soil in half a decade, showing the world the quality of mountain biking found in West Virginia. The event was widely celebrated as one of the most memorable World Cup races of all time, winning the prestigious title of “2019 Event of the Year” from Pinkbike.

This year’s World Cup events at Snowshoe will take place September 15-19, 2021.
