Athletes from around the world gather in Tulsa for Oklahoma’s only full-distance IRONMAN triathlon

TULSA, Oklahoma. (May 22, 2022) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Northeast Oklahoma provided a stunning backdrop for the second annual Certified Piedmont Beef IRONMAN Triathlon on Sunday, May 22. Athletes from around the world started the IRONMAN Certified Piedmontese Beef Triathlon, it was local Tulsa, Okla. U25-29 age group athlete Sam Carr took the hard-fought victory in his hometown with a time of 9:29:59. On the women’s side, Maggie Rusch of Boulder, Colo., in the F35-39 age group, took the top honors with a final time of 10:03:45.

The 2022 Certified Piedmont Beef IRONMAN Tulsa took athletes along a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run through Tulsa and surrounding areas . The swim took place at Keystone Lake located in Keystone State Park near Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Once out of the water, athletes took off on the 112-mile bike, a point-to-point course starting at Keystone Lake and taking athletes through some of Tulsa’s most scenic areas, including parts of Osage and Tulsa County. Athletes had the opportunity to ride portions of the Osage Hills and experience the verdant terrain that makes up Northeast Oklahoma’s “Green Country.” Athletes complete the bike leg in downtown Tulsa on the Oklahoma State University-Tulsa campus. Capping off their 140.6-mile journey, the athletes traveled through scenic, historic and bustling downtown Tulsa to Route 66 where it connects to the River Parks Trail System. Runners experienced a fast, flat course with views of the Arkansas River as they zipped past Tulsa’s Gathering Place and back downtown to finish at beautiful Guthrie Green.
