The inaugural race sold out in minutes, then everyone waited for pandemic delays to end the North American gravel season last year.
Now, the 2022 100-mile Big Sugar is set to open for registration on Tuesday, March 1 at 5:00 p.m. EST, and they suspect it will sell out very quickly as well. So does the 50-mile Little Sugar, both of which run on back roads to downtown Bentonville, with surprisingly challenging elevation (and a brewery stop just over halfway there).
Of lifespan: There is no lottery for this event, so runners will need to act fast to get their fix of (Big) Sugar 100 or 50 miles in Bentonville, Arkansas on October 22. Big Sugar and the 50-mile Lil Sugar will take riders on scenic but rarely maintained gravel roads through northwest Arkansas and southern Missouri, one of the most enjoyable biking regions in the country.
The front of the race will be full of drama this year, as Big Sugar will be the final Grand Prix stop for life, and the athletes are hoping to get a share of the series’ $250,000 purse. However, athletes of all levels can register for the distance of their choice!
