Oro-Medonte: Canadian Mountain Bike Races for Glory

0

Former Olympians and world champions set off on the trails of Oro-Medonte from July 21.

Regardless of their European race schedules, there’s one event Canadian racers won’t miss, said Glenn Meeuwisse of Pulse Racing and event organizer of the Canadian Championship cross-country races from Thursday to Sunday.

“They all come home for these races,” Meeuwisse said.

Beginning Thursday evening, 160 mountain bikers will be hitting the trails of Hardwood Ski & Bike in various one-mile short-track races between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday will be big events, where Canada’s top runners will test their mettle on the grueling six-kilometre course they will cover between three and six times in the hour-and-a-half timed race.

There is no charge for tickets to the event, Meeuwisse said, adding that spectators can choose to donate $5 to the Hardwood Development cross-country ski team that helps with parking.

He expects around 2,000 people to attend the event and advises viewers to bring a bottle of water and wear comfortable walking shoes so they can tour the course and meet runners in the pit area.

“It’s great for them to experience different parts of the event,” he said.
