Ex British GT 2006 Lotus Exige GT3 at auction

Lotus announced last September that it was collaborating with RML to build and race a GT4 version of its new Emira.

And one of this car’s racing ancestors is about to go up for auction. Indeed, it is one of only three FIA GT3-spec Lotus cars ever built.

Only three supercharged Exige GT3s were built, all three entered the 2006 British GT3 Championship, winning the first ever GT3 Teams Championship with Cadena Team Lotus.

Two of the original three cars have survived (car #3 was destroyed in a fire), this is #2 of the three, still with the car’s beautiful original appearance and mechanically sound, but requiring a recommissioning and refurbishment after a decade in storage if serious track action is to be in its future as well as its past.

This car has only done 8000 miles with an engine said to have only done 200km and a gearbox that was rebuilt after its last run in 2010.

Although the safety equipment is no longer up to date for competition use, the car should be perfectly serviceable as is, although it is likely that some configuration will be required to suit the intended use, whether for track days, hill climbs or future competition (the car is certainly eligible for a number of historic racing series including Masters Endurance Legends).
